4 Tips to Be a Better Online Learner – Our Guide

Going through a global pandemic has forced many people to change their way of living and daily routines. It is important to stay vigilant, aware, and disciplined during these times. Most have been working from home and some students have moved to online classrooms due to the closure of schools for the public’s safety.

If you have not tried taking online classes before, it may be a bit difficult to adjust to its flow at first. However, once you get into the groove of it and have established a habit or routine, learning through online classes should be easy for you to tackle daily.

Here are some tips on how to become a better online learner

Make sure your tools are reliable

Before you hop on a course and enroll in different classes, you need to make sure that you have a reliable internet connection. Otherwise, it will be difficult for you to join video classes online, access important course materials and e-books, and take exams. Worrying about your internet connection is the last thing you need before an important class, so make sure your WiFi connection is capable of taking in that much internet load.

Aside from good internet connection, keep necessary learning tools like notebooks and pens close to you. Make sure you have some extra pens nearby just in case you’re on a writing sprint.

Have your own workspace for learning

Dedicate an area at home that you can call your workspace. It could be a desk in your room or an extra space in your living area. As long as there are no distractions, and you are able to focus, then that area should be good. Your learning environment is important because this is the area where you will establish a strict learning routine.

Make sure all your learning tools are within reach and that your work area will help you be more productive. If you’re the type of person that needs music, go ahead and place a speaker nearby, and curate a playlist that will help you focus.

Figure out what works for you

The first few days of your online classes may be a bit challenging, but this is perfectly normal since you are adjusting to a new routine. Figure out what kind of learning style and schedule fits you best. If you’re a morning person, establish a solid morning system that will help get to work and study quicker and in a more focused headspace.

The fun part about learning in a new environment is figuring out what learning system works best for you and how to use it to your advantage.

Be open to the change

Going to school via online classes is a big change in itself, but having to interact with a bunch of people through a screen can be incredibly difficult for others to adjust to. Find solace in the fact that you are all going through this change together and be open to this new experience.

Having classes online shouldn’t affect how curious you are about what you’re learning. Most online class platforms would have features where you can interact with your instructors and classmates—maximize this and communicate with them as you would in a normal classroom. You can still be a team player and a responsible student even online.

Conclusion

Having to learn in a different environment requires a lot of change and discipline. The learning environment you’re in shouldn’t affect how focused you are in achieving your educational goals. Follow these tips and figure out your new learning groove. Once you’ve set up a routine and way of learning, you will become a better online learner
